PAN - Online Verification
The 'Verify Your PAN' feature on the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department (www.incometax.gov.in) is a service that allows you to verify the authenticity of your Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.
The PAN is a unique identification number issued by the Income Tax Department to individuals and entities for the purpose of keeping track of their financial transactions that are taxable. The 'Verify Your PAN' feature allows you to check whether the PAN card issued to you is genuine or not. This can be useful if you have any doubts about the authenticity of your PAN card, or if you have lost your PAN card and want to ensure that you have the correct number. To use the 'Verify Your PAN' feature, you need to provide your PAN number and other personal details. The Income Tax Department will then check its records to confirm whether the PAN number you have provided is valid or not.
To access this feature, follow these steps:
1. Go to the e-filing website of Income-tax Dept. (www.incometax.gov.in).
2. Click on the 'Quick Links' tab on the right side of the page.
3. Under the 'Quick Links' tab, click on the 'Verify Your PAN' option.
4. On the 'Verify Your PAN' page, enter your PAN number and other personal details, such as your name and date of birth.
5. Click on the 'Verify' button to check the authenticity of your PAN number.
The Income Tax Department will check its records to confirm whether the PAN number you have provided is valid or not. If the PAN number is valid, you will see a message on the screen confirming the authenticity of your PAN card. If the PAN number is not valid, you will see an error message on the screen.
It is important to note that the 'Verify Your PAN' feature is only intended to verify the authenticity of your PAN card. It is not intended to provide any other information about your PAN, such as your tax liability or tax returns.
